SinglePST Tool

Summary

Many electrophysiology experiments have a repeated stimulus paradigm in which a stimulus is turned on, then turned off, then there is a rest period, then the stimulus is turned on and off again. Researchers often want to align the spike records by the StimOn time to see if there are particular patterns of spiking aligned to the stimulus.

The SinglePST tool forms the post stimulus time (PST) histogram for an individual neural unit synched to the chosen stimulus marker. The resulting histogram of counts in each bin indicates temporal variations in the rate of neuronal discharge as a response to a periodically repeating stimulus. The PST histogram is one tool for examining the dynamic neural response to a particular stimulus. The results can be viewed as a raster plot and/or a traditional PST plot.

Details

The PST histogram is formed by quantizing the time axis in bins relative to the stimulus. The PST histogram calculates the response in each bin averaged across all stimulus presentations.
