Details

The Poisson distribution is a discrete probability distribution that expresses the probability of a number of events occurring in a fixed period of time if these events occur with a known average rate, and are independent of the time since the last event.

The probability distribution of the number of occurrences of the event in a fixed time interval is Poisson with mean µ = λt, where λ is the rate of occurrence of the event per unit of time and t is the length of the time interval.

The FitPoisson tool finds the best λ rate parameter to fit a given set of spike times to a basic Poisson model.
